American hazelnut seedlings grown from the breeding work of Badgersett Nursery. These hazels have a high diversity from one another with different nut sizes and ripening times. A great option for wildlife plantings, and a good edible for humans as well despite the smaller nut kernel sizes.

Hazelnuts are wind pollinated, similar to corn in this regard. In late March you can see the red female flowers and the elongating yellow catkins which produce the pollen. It’s a good idea to have a few near each other to get good pollination.

These shrubs are very large, and you will likely see them flower in the first or second year in the ground!
