Larix kaempferi is a deciduous conifer that usually grows exceptionally straight and can be made into extremely durable rot resistant lumber. The trees can grow in very poor watery soils. I have seen them growing in an anoxic pond berm to a height of 50’. In better contexts, they can reach 75 feet in 20-30 years. In the fall, like the American larch (the Tamarack), the needles turn a beautiful yellow and fall off.
