A member of the ginger family, completely hardy to winters in zone 5b if mulched at ground level. This herbaceous perennial flowers late in September. The flowers can be pickled for a delicious flavorful burst of fresh ginger! Don’t go into it expecting the same experience as the ginger root we know and love, but it is unique and wonderful in its own way.
