The northern catalpa can grow to almost 100' tall. It loves full sun and decent moisture. It can fix a relatively low amount of nitrogen, but it grows with incredible vigor. The flowers are loved by bumblebees and produce a beautiful spring aroma after black locusts flower. The wood is as durable as black locust but extremely light and easy to work. It is wonderful as a coppice/pollard mulch tree, ornamental, wildlife tree, lumber, or all of these simultaneously! The cigar pods are also a fun look in the summer and fall. The seeds can be direct sown for more trees with very little work.
