Xanthoceras sorbifolium is a beautiful shrub that can grow to 15’ with ornate serrated leaves and phenomenal spring blooms. The nuts that develop are so oily that they are being used for oil production in China. The plant is hard to understand. Many growers find it challenging to keep alive, and yet when it catches it seems indestructible. It seems to prefer drier locations, but there is no solid consensus on the exact recipe for success.
